Carotid Ultrasound, CPT 93880

Image for Carotid Ultrasound, CPT 93880

Description

A carotid ultrasound produces images of the vessels within your neck and examines the blood flow within. It also evaluates for clots within these vessels. A carotid ultrasound tests for blocked or narrowed carotid arteries, which can increase your risk of stroke. High blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, family history of stroke or heart disease, recent stroke, coronary artery disease, and unusual sound in the carotid arteries (bruit) detected by your doctor are all reasons why you might need a carotid ultrasound. Prep for this Exam: Please do not wear clothing that covers your neck and do not wear a necklace.
